Hi, my name is Sinjita Bose and I will be writing about fashion (for men & women) for Spice Magazine. Let me tell you what my columns won’t be: It won’t be like the fashion magazine on my desk telling me to buy the latest Manolo’s with the $1500 dress. I personally enjoy those magazines, but realistically who can really afford fashion at those prices. It won’t focus on designer names. Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Chloe & Dior. They are icons and artists, but we all know 3 months of rent for a handbag is almost never worth it. Rather, I want to spend time educating you on how to look good for any occasion within a realistic price range. As a merchant at banana republic and previously at j crew, it’s been my job to choose a collection that is accessible yet inspirational while helping people define and explore their individual style. When Neha asked me to write this article, I agreed immediately! It was my opportunity to let everyone know that fashion does not have to be intimidating. I will show you that a few key pieces (at reasonable prices) will provide a great foundation for a killer wardrobe. Today, I’m going to start with the essentials. You can find most of these items at your local mall. I have also listed some of my favorite destinations for these items. These items are timeless and withstand the changing face of fashion. Trust me; you will be happy once you have them in your closet. Wardrobe Must Haves
1. Black Turtleneck –This versatile is must for everyone. You can layer it, wear it on its own. Dress it up or down with jeans or a skirt. When all else fails, you can always throw out on a black turtleneck to achieve a sophisticated look. My advice is to get a few for the changing seasons. Check out Gap, Banana Republic or Club Monaco in the Fall for the best selection. Prices typically run between $48-$78.
2. The Cardigan: Black, cream & grey cardigans are a must. The cardigan’s beauty is its versatility. You can wear it on its own or layered with a cami.
3. Fitted White Tee Shirt: Nothing is sexier than a fitted white t-shirt. Add some jewelry and you will be ready for anything. Some great ones:

4. Fitted White Button Down Shirt: A classic that’s needs no explanation. J.Crew, Ann Taylor and Banana Republic always have these essentials.
5. Black Knit Wrap Dress: It’s the perfect day to night dress. Added bonus – knit dresses are very forgiving so bring on the dessert. I personally love the dresses from BR and Ann Taylor.
6. Nice Jeans: Please, please, please invest in a pair of jeans that fit and accentuate your body. I’m not saying you should spend $300 but be a little flexible here. You will be surprised how much use and how fantastic you look with great fitting jeans. Bloomingdales and/or Macy’s offer the best selection.
7. Versatile Blazer: A great 3rd piece will bring your outfit to life. Pair it with jeans and a turtleneck for a polished yet chic look.
8. Tanks/Camisole: Black & White. The essential layering items.
9. A-line Skirt: Definitely in neutrals or black. Pair it with a cardigan, skinny belt at the waist with cute flats!
10. Black Trouser Pants: Need I say more! Happy Shopping!
